Perhaps I thought the concept was a rip off of Cowboy Bebop or maybe I was just disillusioned with sci fi. The last few big sci fi franchises have all been letdowns (ie, Matrix) and even Star Wars had lost alot of its luster (this was prior to episode 3 of course). When I heard about a devout internet fanbase, my mind flashed with sudden and unwelcome images of pale face teens debating endlessly about metaphasic shielding and thelaron radiation (I was never really a fan of Star Trek).
I say all this so I can fully illustrate how little I cared about Firefly three days ago. I walked into Best Buy to pick up Katsuhiro Otomo's Steam Boy because I was itching for some anime. On a whim, I happened to see a single copy of the Firefly Boxed Set. I ended up leaving the store with Firefly only because the series was seven times longer than Steam Boy for only twice the price and I happened to have to have alot of free time to kill for the next couple weeks. I figured I would watch one episode a day and it would keep me occupied for the next two weeks.
Three days later, I find myself scouring the net for more Firefly news. I read every single Joss Whedon interview I could find, desperate to find some tidbit of information that may hint of future episodes. This is the best television show I've seen in my life (other than Band of Brothers but that doesn't really count)! I'm hooked and I need more! I want to spend more time with Captain Malcolm Reynolds and his dysfunctional crew onboard The Serenity!
Thankfully, before I started writing fan fiction, I found out that there's a Firefly movie called Serenity coming out in September! Praise the Gods! Check it at out at : [link]
So all of you, go out and buy/rent/borrow/steal the DVD for Firefly then in September, get everyone you know to go watch Serenity seven times! If the movie is sucessful they'll do two more! And maybe they'll put the show back on air! They did it once for Family Guy, they can do it again!
Ok ok, enough ranting. Watch Firefly. Its hella good.
